How we work
Being virtual is not a compromise on service. It removes the parts of the process that never needed to happen in a boardroom, and keeps the parts that protect you.
The closing path
Select a stage to see what happens at that point in your file. Once your file is open you can also check its current stage yourself at any time.
Once you confirm that you wish to proceed, we open your file and a member of our team contacts you to begin the intake process.
You will receive a secure link to our ClientConnect portal, where you can complete your questionnaire, upload relevant documents and verify your identity, all in one place.
Before closing, we meet with you by secure video call to review and sign your closing documents. We also provide a clear breakdown of the final figures and closing costs in advance, so you know what to expect.
We coordinate with the other law firm and your lender, where applicable, to transfer funds, register the required documents and arrange for the release of keys. We keep you updated and notify you as soon as your transaction is complete.
After closing, we send you a complete digital reporting package containing your reporting letter, applicable registered documents, title insurance policy and copies of the documents you signed. Keep this package for your records.
Handled carefully
Real estate is a target for fraud, and most of it arrives by email. Here is how we work, so you know what normal looks like.
Every communication is diligently verified. Conflicts checks are conducted before exchanging confidential information or documents.
Our ClientConnect portal gives you one convenient place to complete questionnaires, upload documents, verify your identity and securely exchange information with our team. Everything stays organized and accessible throughout your transaction.
We use secure identity-verification technology that meets the Law Society of Ontario’s requirements, allowing you to verify your identity remotely without visiting our office.
Any balance due is deposited into our regulated trust account, and closing funds are exchanged directly with the other party’s law firm. We provide clear payment instructions in advance and will never ask you to send funds to a new account based solely on an unexpected last-minute email.
If anything ever looks off, call us. We will not email you changed banking instructions, and we will not ask you to transfer funds urgently to a new account. If you receive something that appears to be from us and asks for either, do not reply to it, call (343) 633-5997 and confirm.
Common questions
At Amer Ali Law, we believe clients should not feel left in the dark during a real estate transaction. Our team uses phone, email, secure electronic communication, and virtual meetings to make it easy to ask questions and receive updates throughout the closing process.
We use a streamlined, technology-focused process to collect documents, communicate with clients, review closing information, and arrange signing. Wherever appropriate, documents can be handled electronically, reducing unnecessary office visits, paperwork, and back-and-forth.
Traditionally, clients often had to travel to a lawyer’s office, take time away from work, arrange childcare, deal with traffic and parking, and sign a large package of documents in person. With a remote closing, many of these steps can be completed from home or another convenient location, subject to the requirements of the particular transaction.
Yes. Technology should make your closing easier, not make your lawyer harder to reach. When legal questions arise, clients can communicate with the firm and arrange to speak with a lawyer rather than relying solely on automated systems or trying to navigate the closing process on their own.
Convenience without sacrificing access to your legal team. Instead of organizing your day around a trip to the lawyer’s office, a modern closing process can often be organized around you. That can mean easier scheduling, faster communication, electronic document handling, and fewer unnecessary in-person appointments while still having a lawyer available when legal questions need to be addressed.
